Structure

The organization structure of the University is made up of a central and a local level.

The first one is constituted by the Higher Board, the Presidency (Rectorate) and additional higher units: Academic, Technological Transfer and Extension, Finance and Administration Vicerrectorates, Secretariat General, Internal Comptrollership and Academic Council.

The appointments of the vicerrectors are made solely by the Rector because those are positions that require his absolute confidence. The Secretary General and the Comptroller, on the other hand, are chosen by the Higher Board and proposed by the Rector.

The second level is formed by the Faculties and their dependent units: Deanery, Faculty Secretariat, Departments, Schools and Centres, Administration Unit and Faculty Council.

UTEM is ruled by a Collegiate Government System which includes members representing the three parties composing the University (students, academics and workers) plus external representatives.

The Higher Board is the collegiate body with the highest hierarchy within the institution. It is presided over by the Rector and is made up of three representatives of the President of the Republic, five academics, two representatives of the students and a representative of the University workers.

In academic matters, the Rector is counselled by the Academic Council which is integrated by the Academic and Technological Transfer and Extension Vicerrectors, Deans, and a representative of the students. The Secretary General of the University performs the duties of secretary of this Council.

At the local level, there is a Faculty Council, a collegiate body which acts as a consultant to the Dean. It is formed by Directors of Departments, Schools and Centres, Heads of Majors, academics, two representatives of the students and one of the workers.
